Water Boosters and Pumps

Could Your Water Pressure Do With a Boost?

If your home suffers from poor water pressure then you could be experiencing things such as a weak shower spray, dishes taking forever to clean or a bath that takes so long to fill its cold before you get into it! You could also be waiting a long time for your radiators to warm up, there are answers for all.

The are two ways of boosting your domestic water pressure, you can either boost the entire system or you can boost a specific faucet in your home. Boosting an entire system can be more expensive than an individual faucet, so the latter option may be a better option if it’s just a singular shower you may want to boost.

To boost water pressure across your property you must first have stored water. Water Authority bye-laws prevent a pump being connected directly to the mains supply, so when mains supply pressure needs a boost a break tank must be incorporated into the system. Traditional gravity fed systems have this already.

Here is a simply test to carry out to find out whether or not you have low water pressure.

There are four important features of a booster pump that you should be aware of when making a purchase decision. These are:

Flow Rate - This is the maximum amount of water that can leave the pump every minute.

Pressure/Bar Rating - This is the pressure at which the water will be ejected out of the booster pump.

System Type - Booster pumps come in either positive or negative types. A positive pump is activated by gravity. A negative pump is activated by a drop in the pressure between the pump and the device.

Head Impeller - Booster pumps are operated using an impeller system. The more impellers, the more powerful the pump.

If you decide you are in the market for a water booster then its important to know that there really is only a handful of pump brands worthy of your time. These are: Grundfo's, Salamander, Stuart Turner and Saniflo.
